For God Sake Dear

So I am up...and bored. It's 3:15AM and I cannot sleep. I start training for my waitressing job tomorrow. I am really happy to finally have a job. I am content and not looking forward to the summer ending. That is all.

Lying in bed just like Brian Wilson dead

So much has happened since my last blog. Koln was awesome. I never thought I would be going to Karneval ever in my life! I dressed as a cat and the parades were amazing. I have been in Luneburg for almost 3 months...CRAZY! I miss my family, boyfriend, friends and my cat soooooooo much! It has helped that 4 weeks ago James came to visit me for a week. During that week I still have school, but we managed to go to multiple museums, a hockey game, went out with friends, saw Alice and Wonderland, went to the top of the water tower and lots of other things. It was honestly the best week of my life. I almost died when I saw him at the airport and almost died when I had to leave him at the airport.
The week after James came I had Spring Break. Two of my friends and I decided to go to Istanbul, Turkey. It was incredibly exciting for me since I had done two reports on Turkey, my mom had lived there before and my aunt and uncle have a place in Turkey. So I was excited to visit a place that I have heard about my whole life.
We saw mosques, we went to a Turkish bath, hung out with some really great locals and people from our hostel, had really good food, saw a belly dancing dinner show, saw the Whirling Dervishes and went to two sultan palaces. We flew into the Asian side of Turkey and stayed in the European side. So now I have another continent to add to my list :).
When I got back I started to get a really bad cold and I am still trying to get over it. Tomorrow I begin the highest level of German. So time should just get even more intense.

In a big country dreams stay with you like a lovers voice

So apparently I should have something blog-worthy since I am living in a different country..etc. It has been almost a month that I have been in Germany. Time has flown by, I do not believe that it is even possible that I have been here this long. Well...where to start? I got here on January 7th at about 3pm. I met my buddy (Inga), she helps me with different things like everything one needs to know about Luneburg- grocery stores, cool places to hang out, cheap baked goods etc...After we met up we went to the place where I am staying for 4 months.
We got on a bus with my two pieces of luggage. We got off the bus like 10 minutes later and walked my luggage through the snow to an old style Germany house. The last thing Inga said before we got to the door was "are you nervous" I told her not really and we knocked on the door to the house. My host mom answered and said (in German) "come on in and take your shoes off. Today we will use English, but from tomorrow on, only German". I was a bit intimidated by this, but I agreed. We sat down in the dining room and went over leases and such with my buddy. We had a really good herbal tea with cookies.
The first two nights I ate dinner with my host family. They cooked Indian style food both times, which tasted great. I had orientation Friday and Saturday of that week, so my time was spent going to the school for hours and then coming home and going to bed. The second day I was here (Friday) my host family had a friend from London (Andrew) come and visit for a few days. He was really nice and I asked him about a whole bunch of popular cultural things like "Keeping up Appearances" and "Rocky Horror Picture Show". He had a really good sense of humor and was fun to talk to. My host mom, Andrew and I went to brunch that Sunday at a wonderful restaurant. They had tons to pick from, we sat around for about 4 hours eating and talking.
The first week of school was a bit stressful because we had a placement exam and we were placed into our levels. The Saturday of our first week the USAC program took us on a trip to Hamburg. We went to the Harbor and rode on a ferry. We also went to a church ruin tower that is a memorial of the destruction war can cause. Later that evening we went to dinner at this really cool restaurant that had amazing Salmon.
Since this time I have gone to my first German soccer game, the hamburg art museum, hamburg history museum, the U-Boot museum and The Dungeon (a haunted house/history/comedy museum). This week we are planning to go to Hamburg on Wednesday to see Madame Butterfly. I hope it works out, I have always wanted to see an Opera in Germany. We will be going in two weeks on a 3 night stay in Koln for Carnival. That is all for now...I am sure I missed important things, but for now... bis spaeter
